A short history of Lanivtsi
Lanivtsi dates back to 1444, when a charter of King Casimir Jagiellon granted the surrounding lands to Panko Yelovytskyi; a Trypillian settlement has also been found nearby. The town received its charter in 1545. In 1568 Sava Yelovytskyi turned the fortified manor into a castle protected by an artificial pond, but Tatars destroyed it in autumn 1618, and later Mykhailo Yelovytskyi built a brick palace on the site. By 1870 the town had a church, a Catholic church, two synagogues and a mill, with fairs three times a year, and in 1915 the Ternopil–Shepetivka railway arrived. On 2 June 1919 the Black Zaporozhians Cavalry Regiment of the UNR Army defeated a unit of the 2nd Tarashcha Brigade near Lanivtsi.
Notable people of Lanivtsi
Lanivtsi is the birthplace of singer Tamara Dydyk, People's Artist of Ukraine, and writer and historian Rachel Auerbach (1903–1976). Priest and civic leader Mykola Maliuzhynskyi served here, poet Sofiia Buniak lived here, and poet Yevhen Malaniuk also stayed in the town.

The town sits where the Buhlivka and Zherd flow into the Zhyrak, a tributary of the Horyn, earning it the name of a town on four rivers. Landmarks include the Church of the Protection of the Mother of God, the remains of the Church of the Assumption (1857), the 2001 monument to Volodymyr the Great, the restored grave of UNR soldiers and the Declaration to the City memorial sign.
