A text is not the best way to apologise for serious hurt, but reconciliation often starts with one. A short message gives the other person time to think, does not force an immediate reply and shows you have made the first move. Here are texts for different people and situations — use them as a starting point and add details only the two of you would understand.

How to apologise in a messenger: 5 rules
Write full sentences — no “soz” and no emoji instead of words.
One message instead of ten: a stream of texts feels like pressure.
Do not send a voice note at 3 am — wait until morning.
Do not demand a reply or keep checking whether it has been read.
Suggest meeting or a call: a text starts the conversation, it does not replace it.
Short sorry texts
“I am sorry. I was wrong and I really regret it.”
“I am ashamed of yesterday. Please forgive me.”
“I do not want this argument to stand between us. I am sorry.”
“I have thought it through. You were right and I was not.”
“Sorry for the harsh words. They were about my tiredness, not about you.”
“Can I call you tonight? I want to apologise with my voice, not a text.”
Apology texts for your partner
“Love, I am sorry. I feel awful when we fight, and worse knowing it is my fault.”
“I miss your goodnight message. Please forgive me.”
“I promised and did not follow through. You have every right to be angry, and I intend to make it right.”
“This evening feels empty without you. Sorry I ruined our weekend.”
A joke only fits small things — being late, eating their dessert or forgetting the bread. With serious hurt, humour cheapens your words.
“I officially confess: I forgot the bread. I accept my punishment — a trip to the bakery.”
“Sorry I ate your dessert. I will make it up with two.”
“I was 20 minutes late. Sorry — coffee is on me.”
“A message from your favourite idiot: I am sorry.”
What to do after sending the text
Send it — and wait. If the reply is cold or short, do not argue in the chat: thank them for reading and offer to talk when they are ready. If there is no reply for a day or two, you can gently check in. When it is time to meet, see the guide how to say sorry.
A card with flowers instead of a text
The same few sentences handwritten on a card work better than a message. Order a bouquet with delivery — red roses for a partner or flowers in a box for anyone — and add your text to the card field.
Yes, if you cannot meet or the person does not want to talk yet. For serious hurt, a text should be the first step, not the whole apology.
What should I write if they do not reply?
Nothing new for a day or two. Then one short message without pressure: “I am here whenever you are ready to talk.”
Are emojis OK in an apology?
One warm emoji at the end may be fine, but never instead of words or in a serious situation.
