Earth Day is celebrated every year on 22 April. It was first held in the United States in 1970 at the initiative of Senator Gaylord Nelson, when about 20 million people took to the streets. In 1990 it went international, and in 2009 the UN proclaimed 22 April International Mother Earth Day. It is a day when the whole world remembers that we only have one planet. Below you will find short Earth Day wishes, messages for friends and colleagues, poems and eco-friendly gift ideas.

Earth Day poems

Our planet is a garden fair
Of rivers, hills and forest air.
Happy Earth Day! Let us all
Protect it, every one, big and small.

May the Earth bloom bright in spring,
May the sky be clear and blue,
May the world find peace in everything
And happiness bloom for you!

Gift ideas for Earth Day

Earth Day calls for gifts that don't harm nature: a potted houseplant, a sapling for the garden or things made from recycled materials. If you're giving flowers, choose a basket: it needs no plastic wrapping and keeps the arrangement fresh for longer. White shades suggest purity, and a potted orchid blooms for months.
