When choosing wedding flowers, more and more couples wonder: fresh, artificial or preserved? Each option has strengths and limits in terms of season, budget, weather and what you want to keep as a memento. Here is an honest comparison and where each option fits best.

Comparing the options

Fresh flowers

• Pros: scent, natural texture and colour that look best in close-up photos.
• Limits: some flowers are seasonal (peonies, for example), they are sensitive to heat and frost, and the bouquet must be ordered for a specific date.
• Best for: the bridal bouquet, boutonnieres and guest tables.

Artificial flowers

• Pros: independent of season and weather, decor can be prepared in advance, and the bouquet lasts as a keepsake.
• Limits: no scent, cheaper ones are noticeable up close and in close-ups, and they are plastic and fabric.
• Where they work: arches, venue decor, photo backdrops and anything that must be installed early or used at an outdoor ceremony in the heat.

Preserved flowers

Can I have peonies at a winter wedding?
