But beach life in the capital has changed: under martial law no official swimming season is declared, and safety by the water depends not only on clean sand but also on air raid alerts. Here is an updated guide to the maintained beaches and the rules worth following.

Popular beaches at a glance
Hydropark: Venetsiia, Dytiachyi, Molodizhnyi
The largest and easiest to reach area, right by Hidropark metro station, with sports grounds, cafés and boat and pedal-boat hire. The Children’s Beach, with a gentle slope and lifeguard post, is a favourite with families.
Zolotyi
About 1.5 km from Peredmistna Slobidka towards Paton Bridge, with a view of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra across the river. There are few cafés nearby, so bring water and snacks.
Tsentralnyi, Trukhaniv Island
Walk over the Pedestrian Bridge from Khreshchatyi Park. Besides the beach there is shade for picnics, cycle paths and sports grounds. Busy at weekends.
Verbnyi and Ostriv Obolonskyi
Verbne Lake in Obolon is one of the deepest in the city (up to 22 m), so swim carefully and only in the marked area. Nearby are the Obolon Island beach and an embankment with cafés.
Chortoryi
A beach in Druzhby Narodiv Park with sunshades, changing cabins and a first-aid post — green and quiet, handy for left-bank residents.
Pushcha-Vodytsia
A lake in pine forest in northern Kyiv: fresh air, shade and boat hire. Crowded at weekends and further to travel, but it feels like a real out-of-town break.
Safety rules
- Swim only at equipped beaches with lifeguards; unchecked riverbeds may hide dangerous objects.
- Don’t swim beyond the buoys or dive from bridges and piers — the Dnipro is deep, with currents and cold springs.
- Don’t swim after alcohol, on a full stomach or straight after long exposure to the sun.
- Install an air raid alert app and check the nearest shelter in advance.
- If you see blue-green algae blooms, murky water or dead fish, stay out of the water.
What to bring
- Water and snacks, SPF 30–50 sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses.
- A mat or towel, a change of clothes, a rubbish bag.
- A charged phone and power bank so you don’t miss alerts.
- A first-aid kit: plasters, antiseptic, insect bite relief.
