The Nut Saviour is the third and last of the August Saviour feasts, celebrated on 16 August under the Revised Julian calendar (29 August before 2023). It is also called the Bread and Linen Saviour: nuts and bread from the new harvest are blessed, and linen used to be given as a gift. The church feast commemorates the transfer of the Image of Edessa, the Holy Mandylion, to Constantinople in 944. Below are Nut Saviour wishes for family and friends, plus poems and gift ideas. Wishes for other holidays of the year are in our holiday wishes calendar.

Traditions of the day
On the Nut Saviour, nuts, bread and pies made with new flour are blessed, and housewives bake the first bread from the new harvest.
By folk custom, this day marked the end of the harvest and the start of nut gathering, and family members were given linen or embroidered towels.
Farewell to summer
The Nut Saviour is the last feast of summer. May autumn bring calm, comfort and many happy meetings.
May the warmth of August days stay in your hearts all autumn and winter.
Nut Saviour poems
The Nut Saviour comes to call, New bread is fragrant on the plate, May peace and joy bless one and all And kindness fill your family's fate.
Blessed nuts and blessed bread, The warmth of an August night, May God protect the path ahead And keep your family's future bright.
What to give on the Nut Saviour
Symbolic gifts suit the Nut Saviour: a basket of fruit and nuts, home baking or an embroidered towel. If you are visiting your parents or grandma, add a bouquet to the basket — for example warm coral roses that suit the end of summer.
