Wedding decor zones
The ceremony
The focal point of an outdoor ceremony is the arch or backdrop where the couple say their vows. The aisle is decorated with floor arrangements, lanterns with flowers or small bouquets on guests' chairs. Arch ideas are in "Wedding flower arch".
Guest tables and the head table
Centrepieces on guest tables should be either low or very tall on a slim stand so they don't get in the way of conversation. Flowers in bottles and small vases, candles and greenery along the table work well. For the head table, a long arrangement or a garland of greenery and flowers is usual. The cake and dessert table
Fresh flowers on a cake look stunning, but they must be safe: florists use flowers grown without treatments unsafe for food and wrap the stems in tape or use special holders so they don't touch the icing.
Photo zone and installations
- A flower wall — a dense panel of flowers or greenery for guests' photos.
- Garlands of greenery and flowers along stairs, tables and railings.
- Hanging installations above tables or the dance floor.
- Decorative cages, lanterns and bottles with flowers — for intimate and vintage weddings.
The couple's look

How to plan wedding flowers
- Palette. Choose 2–3 main colours and 1 accent.
- Priorities. Most of the budget usually goes on the arch and guest tables — decide what matters most to you.
- Reuse. Ceremony arrangements can be moved to the reception.
- Season. Seasonal flowers are fresher and better value — more in "Wedding flowers by season".
- Timing. Discuss the decor with your florist 2–3 months before the wedding.
