World Writers' Day is celebrated every year on 3 March. It was established by PEN International, which made the decision at its 48th congress in 1986. PEN itself was founded in London in 1921, and PEN Ukraine has been active since 1989. It is a day for everyone who works with words: novelists, poets, playwrights, screenwriters, children's authors and those still writing their very first book. Below you will find short Writers' Day wishes, messages for author friends, poems and gift ideas.

More for people of words: World Book Day wishes, Journalists Day wishes, Translation Day wishes.

Writers’ Day poems

May words flow from the heart with ease,
May every line hit home,
May your muse stay day and night
And never leave you alone.

Happy Writers' Day, my friend!
May each line ring like spring,
And may your book find readers
Who love the tales you bring.

Gift ideas for Writers’ Day

A writer will always appreciate a nice notebook, a fountain pen, a desk lamp or a bookshop voucher. To make the greeting festive, add flowers: a large bouquet of roses shows respect for the author, while sunny yellow roses bring to mind the spring that is just beginning on 3 March.
