About the feast

Saint George was a Roman soldier who died for his faith in the early 4th century. He is depicted on horseback slaying a dragon — a symbol of good triumphing over evil. In Ukraine, St George’s Day was an important spring feast for farmers: people washed in the morning dew, walked around the fields and drove cattle to pasture for the first time.
