A short history of Horodnia
Horodnia has been known since 1552, when «boyar children of Horodnia» took part in the Kazan campaign. From 1618 it belonged to the Polish noble family Khvoshch, and in 1635 it became the centre of the Horodnia district of the Chernihiv Voivodeship. After 1654 it was a company town of the Chernihiv Regiment, and in 1782 it became a district town with a coat of arms showing an anchor and three silver stars. Occupied during the full-scale war, Horodnia was liberated on 1 April 2022.
Notable people of Horodnia
Electromechanical engineer Oleksandr Kukhtenko, an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and Hero of the Soviet Union Oleksandr Zhyzhkun were born here.

The town lies on the Chybryzh River near the borders with Belarus and Russia, on the Libava–Romny railway opened in 1873. Landmarks include the Holy Trinity Church (1732), the old square with cannons said to be a gift from Peter I, the arboretum, the local history museum and the late 19th-century People's House.
