A short history of Murovani Kurylivtsi
Murovani Kurylivtsi traditionally dates its founding to 1453, while the village of Churylivtsi is first mentioned in 1492. It was founded by the Churylo family, Podillia nobles of the Korczak coat of arms, and over time Churylivtsi became Kurylivtsi. The settlement grew on the road from Kamianets to Mohyliv, on the steep banks of the Zhvan. In the mid-17th century the estate passed to the Kossakowski family, and later Catherine II granted it to the Podolian marshal Stanisław Komar. The town won the right to two fairs in 1775, and in 1883–1887 architect Vasyl Sazonov built its stone Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos.
People linked to Murovani Kurylivtsi
Photographer Yakiv Davydzon (1912–1998), a Shevchenko Prize laureate, was born here, as were journalist and local historian Volodymyr Lysenko (1941–1999) and folk artist Nadiia Burtna (born 1959). It is also the birthplace of Hero of Ukraine Colonel Kyrylo Veres, commander of the K-2 unmanned systems brigade.
Landmarks and local highlights
The settlement stands on the Zhvan River in the Podillia Upland. The Komar estate includes a palace (1871–1873), an arsenal-stable (1805) and an arched bridge over the Zhvan (1805) still in use; a 16th-century stone escarp with casemates survives from Churylo Castle. Nearby are the Zhvan park, the Buchyna nature reserve and the Rehina mineral spring. We deliver bouquets to any address in the settlement.
