Anastasiia’s (Anastasia’s) name day under the new church calendar of the OCU and UGCC is celebrated on 22 December; under the old style it is 4 January. The day honours the Holy Great Martyr Anastasia the Deliverer from Bonds, who helped prisoners and the suffering. A December name day is a lovely way to start the winter holidays. Below are short name day wishes for Anastasiia, wishes in your own words, messages for a friend, mom, daughter or colleague, and poems.
Other winter name days: Anna’s name day and Vasyl’s name day; general collection — name day wishes.
The name Anastasiia comes from the Greek for “resurrection”, so wishing renewal, fresh strength and freedom from whatever weighs her down fits well — just as the saint helped others. For example: “Nastia, happy name day! You can inspire people and restore their faith even on the hardest days. May Saint Anastasia protect you and help you let go of everything that holds you back.”
Happy name day, Nastia dear!
May snow sparkle bright and clear,
May life be kind in every way
And joy be with you every day!
Anastasiia — light and might,
May your days be warm and bright,
May each morning bring you cheer
And love surround you all the year!
Saint Anastasia lived in the late 3rd and early 4th centuries and secretly visited imprisoned Christians, bringing them food and medicine. She became known as the Deliverer from Bonds. She died a martyr around 304. The name Anastasiia comes from the Greek word for “resurrection”.
