Gifts for a female colleague

• For the desk: a stylish organiser, a leather-bound planner, a smart travel mug, a desk lamp or a mini humidifier.
• For herself: a beauty or manicure voucher, a hand cream and candle set, a tea or coffee gift box, or a book in her favourite genre.

Gifts for a male colleague

• Practical: a quality pen or notebook, power bank, wireless earbuds, laptop stand or a travel mug for the car.
• Hobbies and leisure: coffee or craft snacks, a board game, match or concert tickets, or a sports-shop voucher.

If the colleague is new or you barely know them

When you don’t yet know someone’s tastes, choose neutral gifts that suit almost everyone: a small bouquet or potted succulent, a nice mug with tea or coffee, a planner or notebook, a box of good chocolates, a voucher for the café near the office. Decorate the birthday person’s desk with balloons and a bouquet before they arrive, organise a cake and tea break, or collect a video of wishes from colleagues in other offices or cities. If the team is remote, have flowers or sweets couriered to their home and celebrate on a team call — the attention of the whole team counts as much as the gift itself.
