When choosing wedding flowers, more and more couples wonder: fresh, artificial or preserved? Each option has strengths and limits in terms of season, budget, weather and what you want to keep as a memento. Here is an honest comparison and where each option fits best.
These are real flowers whose sap has been replaced with a special solution, so they keep their look for months or even years without water. They suit boutonnieres, ring cushions and keepsake copies of the bouquet. More in Preserved and dried flowers.
A mixed approach
Keep the bridal bouquet and boutonnieres fresh — they look best in hand and in photos.
Large decor such as arches and photo backdrops can be artificial or mixed with fresh greenery.
To keep a memento, dry or preserve part of the bouquet after the wedding.
Fresh peonies are rare and expensive in winter; peony-style roses give a similar look, as do good artificial or preserved flowers.
Will an artificial bouquet look cheap in photos?
It depends on quality: high-end latex and fabric flowers look realistic, but in close-ups fresh flowers still win.
