Journalists Day in Ukraine is marked on 6 June. It was established by a presidential decree in 1994, and today it carries special weight: journalists work on the front line, in frontline cities and in newsrooms that keep going even during air-raid alerts. Here are wishes for reporters, editors, photojournalists and war correspondents — short, formal and witty — plus poems and flower ideas. Other professional dates for the year are in our calendar of professional holidays in Ukraine.
Happy Journalists Day! A sharp pen, reliable sources and stories that change the world for the better.
May your deadlines be humane and your exclusives frequent. Happy holiday!
May every piece be read to the end and the truth always find its reader.
Happy professional holiday! Courage, inspiration and safe assignments.
Wishes for colleagues and the newsroom
Dear newsroom, thank you for the nights over layouts and the mornings with breaking news. You are the best team, and no deadline can scare us.
Colleagues, I wish you honest sources, stable internet and at least one day off without urgent edits.
May our work keep being the voice of those who would otherwise go unheard. Happy holiday, team!
Wishes for war correspondents
Thank you for the truth you gather under fire. Come back from every assignment safe and sound.
Your footage and reports are the memory of the country. We wish you luck, reliable body armour and the peace you will one day write about.
Formal wishes
Dear media workers! We sincerely congratulate you on Journalists Day of Ukraine. Your professionalism and responsibility help society see the truth and resist disinformation.
We wish you creative success, independence, safety at work and many more outstanding stories.
Witty wishes
May your editor-in-chief say "perfect" on the first draft and commenters read past the headline.
May you have enough coffee for every deadline and never more deadlines than coffee!
How to celebrate with the team
Thanks and certificates — recognise everyone's contribution, even with a few words at a team meeting.
Morning flowers for the office — a bouquet for the team or small arrangements on each desk set a festive mood.
A team photo — take a group picture to hang in the office or post on the website.
A wishes board — everyone leaves a few kind words for colleagues on sticky notes.
An informal get-together — lunch, a picnic or a board-game evening after work.
Toasts for the team celebration
Colleagues, here's to our profession! May our work bring not only a salary but also pride in what we do.
A toast to a team that isn't afraid of deadlines, inspections or Mondays. Cheers!
To the experience of those who've been here for years and the energy of those who've just joined. Together we're strong!
Here's to celebrating next year's professional holiday with new achievements and the same wonderful team!
What to write on a card with flowers
Happy birthday! May this bouquet remind you how many people love you.
For the best moments of the year — flowers, sincere words and hugs.
May every day be as bright as this bouquet.
Happy birthday! Wishing you health, peace and joy in the little things.
Sign the card by hand: even two lines in your handwriting mean more than a long printed message.
Poems for Journalists Day
You write by day, you write by night, You seek the truth in every line, May all your stories shine as bright As morning sun upon the vine.
May every topic feel brand new, May every source be firm and true, May all your words ring clear and right And keep the readers up at night.
Which flowers to give a journalist
White or red roses suit a female journalist — a classic that needs no explanation. A male colleague will appreciate a restrained bouquet or a practical work gift. If you are greeting the whole newsroom, choose one big bouquet for the shared desk.
