Being awarded a new rank or title marks years of service, study or research. Soldiers, police officers, rescuers and border guards receive new ranks; academics earn the titles of associate professor or professor; and honorary titles go to those who have done a great deal for their field. In every case a sincere, respectful congratulation is appropriate. Below you will find short congratulations on a promotion in rank, formal messages, wishes for a husband, son or colleague, poems and gift ideas. Other big moments — a new home, a new job, an engagement — are in our collection of wishes for life events.

More for defenders: Land Forces Day wishes, National Guard Day wishes, new job congratulations.

New insignia on your shoulders bright,
An honour truly earned.
May peace come back to every night
And may you soon return.

Congratulations on your rank! Stand strong,
May fortune guard your way,
May every road not be too long
And home be near one day.

Gift ideas for a promotion

Practical things suit a newly promoted soldier: a good torch, thermal underwear, a backpack, a power bank or an engraved tag or belt. For an academic, consider a fine pen, a book or a leather briefcase. And the wife or mother waiting at home deserves flowers: a large rose bouquet is a sign of respect and gratitude to the family.
