Pokrova, the Feast of the Intercession of the Mother of God, is one of the most revered holidays in Ukraine. Since 2023, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church have celebrated it on October 1, together with the Day of Defenders and Ukrainian Cossacks Day. On October 1. After the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church switched to the Revised Julian calendar in 2023, the feast moved from October 14.

Why is Pokrova linked to the Cossacks?

The Cossacks regarded the Mother of God as their patroness, so Ukrainian Cossacks Day is also celebrated on this day.
