Scorpio is the zodiac sign for people born from 23 October to 21 November. A Water sign ruled by Mars and Pluto, it is passionate, perceptive and mysterious. Here you will find the exact dates, personality traits, what Scorpio men, women and children are like, signs a Scorpio is in love, compatibility with other signs, careers and facts about the constellation.

Scorpio: zodiac sign dates and key facts

Scorpio is the eighth sign of the zodiac. It covers people born from 23 October to 21 November, in deep autumn, when nature goes quiet before winter. The boundaries shift by a day from year to year, so anyone born on 22–23 October or 21–22 November should check their sign for their birth year: on those days a person may be a Libra, a Scorpio or a Sagittarius. • insight and sharp intuition
  • loyalty to loved ones
  • courage in a crisis

The Scorpio man

The Scorpio man is strong, reserved and highly charismatic. He rarely shows emotion in public but notices everything: tone, glances, things left unsaid. In relationships he is jealous and demanding, yet he gives his partner a real sense of safety: Scorpio will stand by his person to the end. He dislikes small talk and values women with their own opinions and inner strength. He does not forgive betrayal, and his trust has to be earned.

The Scorpio woman

The Scorpio woman is magnetic and independent. She draws people in with her gaze and her mystery, yet lets very few into her inner world. In love she is passionate and devoted, and expects the same devotion in return. She needs a partner whose spirit is stronger than hers, but not one who tries to control her. She senses lies instantly, so it is best to be honest with her even about small things.

The Scorpio child

A Scorpio child shows character early: stubborn, curious and very sensitive to injustice. They watch adults closely and remember promises. Parents should explain rather than push, and respect the child’s personal space and secrets. A young Scorpio’s energy is best channelled into sport, chess or science clubs.

Scorpio as a friend

Scorpio chooses friends slowly but keeps them for life. Big crowds and shallow chat are not their thing — they prefer a few people they can talk to about anything. Scorpio is the first to help in a hard moment and will never give away your secrets. But betrayal in friendship is not forgiven: someone who lets a Scorpio down simply disappears from their life.

Scorpio decans: how birth dates differ

Astrologers split each sign into three decans. The first (23 October – 1 November) is the “purest” Scorpio, under Mars and Pluto: decisive, passionate and strong-willed. The second (2–11 November) has a touch of Pisces: dreamier, creative, highly intuitive and drawn to the mystical. The third (12–21 November) has a touch of Cancer: the most family-minded and sensitive Scorpios, deeply attached to home and loved ones.

Scorpio in love

In love Scorpio is not after flirting but a complete union of souls. They take their time, test a partner and only then open up. Once they trust, they become tender, passionate and fiercely loyal. Honesty, deep conversations and physical closeness matter to Scorpio. They handle half-truths and coldness badly: an unpleasant truth is better than something hidden.

Signs a Scorpio is falling for you

  • holds your gaze for a long time, as if studying you
  • asks personal questions about your past
  • gets jealous even of friends and colleagues
  • shares secrets they have told no one else
  • becomes your protector, solving problems unasked
  • messages late at night wanting deep conversations

Scorpio is moved by strong, expressive gestures rather than ordinary things. A bouquet in deep shades — burgundy roses, dark calla lilies, orchids or wine-coloured carnations — says more about your feelings than words. Flower ideas for every sign are in our guide which flowers to give each zodiac sign.

How to win a Scorpio’s heart

Big words won’t impress a Scorpio — they judge by actions. What helps:

  • Honesty. Even a small lie can destroy trust for good.
  • A little mystery. Don’t reveal everything at once; Scorpio enjoys figuring you out.
  • Deep conversations. Talk about values, fears and dreams, not the weather.
  • Loyalty. Flirting with others, even jokingly, feels like betrayal.
  • Personal space. Don’t demand a report on every move — Scorpio opens up when not interrogated.

What to avoid: manipulation, jealousy “as a test” and sharing their secrets — Scorpio never forgets.

Scorpio compatibility with other signs

Scorpio gets on best with fellow water signs Cancer and Pisces, who also live through their feelings. Earth signs Virgo and Capricorn make good partners too, giving Scorpio stability and reliability. The opposite sign, Taurus, pulls Scorpio in very strongly — a passionate pairing that needs both to learn to give way. The hardest matches are Leo and Aquarius: both value freedom and an audience, while Scorpio wants depth and loyalty.

Scorpio hobbies and downtime

Scorpios are drawn to anything mysterious and deep: crime novels, psychology, history, astrology, escape rooms and strategy board games. They like intense sports — boxing, diving, climbing — where they can test themselves. They recharge near water and alone: a walk by the river or an evening with a book restores them better than a noisy party.

Gift ideas for Scorpio

Scorpio appreciates gifts with meaning and character. Good ideas: a crime or psychology book, an escape room for two, a quality perfume with a deep scent, jewellery with garnet or obsidian, a leather journal or a diving voucher. Choose wrapping in burgundy and black — the sign’s colours.

Scorpio at work

At work Scorpio is a strategist and investigator. They can pursue a goal for months, dig to the heart of things and solve problems others gave up on. Careers that need analysis, focus and handling hidden information suit them best. Scorpio thrives in a crisis and is not afraid of responsibility, but hates micromanagement and pointless orders.

Careers often chosen

  • investigator, detective
  • psychologist, therapist
  • surgeon
  • financial analyst
  • research scientist
  • cybersecurity

Scorpio lucky stones, colours and numbers

Astrologers link each sign with particular stones, colours and numbers. These are Scorpio’s talismans:

  • Stone: garnet, topaz, obsidian
  • Colours: burgundy, black, deep red
  • Lucky numbers: 4, 5, 8, 9
  • Lucky day: Tuesday
  • Metal: iron, steel

Whether to wear a talisman is a matter of taste, but jewellery with “their” stone or something in their favourite colour makes a good gift for a Scorpio.

The Scorpio constellation

The Scorpius constellation is one of the most beautiful in the sky. Its brightest star, Antares, is a red supergiant hundreds of times larger than the Sun; the name means “rival of Mars” because of its similar reddish colour. From Ukraine it sits low on the southern horizon in June and July. Curiously, the Sun crosses Scorpius for only about a week; for the rest of the “Scorpio” month it passes through neighbouring Ophiuchus.

  • In classical astrology Scorpio was ruled by Mars; Pluto was added after the planet’s discovery in 1930.
  • Scorpios often favour dark colours in clothes and interiors — burgundy and black are considered “their” shades.
