April birth flowers: daisy and sweet pea

  • The daisy is April's flower and a symbol of innocence, purity and true love. Its petals have long been used for 'loves me, loves me not', and the flower itself evokes simple joys. Types of daisies and how to tell chamomile from garden daisies are covered in chamomile facts.
  • The second flower is the sweet pea, a delicate climbing plant with fragrant blooms. It means gratitude and fond memories; in the old language of flowers, 'thank you for a lovely time'. The flowers for every month are in birth month flowers.

Daisy and sweet pea symbolism

The daisy symbolises innocence, loyalty and simple happiness. In Ukraine it is tied to the “loves me, loves me not” game, and wild daisies were traditionally woven into wreaths. Modern bouquets usually use daisy chrysanthemums, matricaria or oxeye daisies, which last longer than wild ones.

The sweet pea is a delicate, honey-scented flower that means thanks for a wonderful time and wishes for a happy journey. Wedding florists love its pastel shades and lightness — a few stems make a bouquet airy.

What blooms in April

  • April is peak spring bloom: tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and grape hyacinths open, and apricots, cherries, sakura and magnolias flower in gardens. Where and when to see cherry blossoms is covered in sakura season. At the florist's, April means tulips, ranunculus, hyacinths and daisy chrysanthemums.

A bouquet for April birthdays

  • April birthdays suit light spring bouquets: daisies with tulips, daisy chrysanthemums in a box, or a pastel wildflower mix. Daisy bouquets last long with proper care; see daisies in a vase. Easter often falls in April, so a bouquet can be paired with festive decor.

April zodiac signs

  • April is shared by Aries (until April 20) and Taurus (from April 21). Energetic Aries get bright tulips and red roses, while beauty-loving Taurus enjoys lush garden roses, hydrangeas or fragrant arrangements.

Caring for daisies and sweet peas

Daisies last 7–10 days in a vase: trim the stems, strip leaves below the waterline and change the water every two days. Sweet peas last 4–6 days and prefer coolness, so keep them away from fruit and sunlight. To grow sweet peas, sow seeds directly by a support in April after soaking them overnight; the first flowers appear in early summer.
