A baby clothes bouquet is a sweet and practical gift for a newborn: tiny bodysuits, socks and hats are rolled into “roses” and arranged into a bouquet — and mum will use every piece later. Here is what you need, how to make one yourself and what to keep in mind so the gift is safe.

Materials for a baby clothes bouquet
  • Clothes: bodysuits, socks, hats, bibs — ideally neutral or pastel and a size up (for example, 62–68 cm).
  • Wooden skewers or thick wire for “stems”, plus floral tape.
  • Tulle, ribbons, kraft paper or felt for wrapping; a soft toy is a nice addition.

Step by step

  • Roll the “roses”. Fold a bodysuit or muslin into a strip and roll it tightly into a bud. Socks make small buds.
  • Secure them with thread or a hair tie — no pins or glue, so the clothes stay intact.
  • Make “stems”. Tie the buds to skewers and wrap with floral tape.
  • Assemble in a spiral, adding tulle and felt “leaves”.
  • Wrap in kraft paper or felt and finish with a ribbon.

Worth remembering

  • No pins, staples or glue on the clothes.
  • Add a note that everything should be washed before use.
  • Skewers should have blunt ends and be hidden in the wrapping.
  • Check whether fresh flowers are allowed at the maternity hospital — many do not permit them, so a clothes bouquet is a great alternative.

FAQ

Which size should I choose?

Go a little bigger — 62–68 cm: babies grow fast and the smallest sizes may not get used.

Can I add fresh flowers?

Better to give mum fresh flowers separately once she is home; they are not attached to the clothes.
