That is why angel figures decorate trees, windows and festive tables. You can make an angel from paper, felt, a pine cone or salt dough — here is each method, plus step-by-step instructions for the simplest one.

What to make an angel from
Paper angel, step by step
- Cut a semicircle 12–15 cm across from thick paper and roll it into a cone for the dress. Glue the edge.
- Use a bead, a cotton ball or a paper circle for the head.
- Cut wings from a paper lace doily or a heart-shaped piece of paper and glue them to the back.
- Add a halo of gold wire or braid, and arms from paper strips.
- Glue a loop on top if the angel will hang on the tree.
Other methods
- Felt — sew two identical shapes together, stuff with wadding and decorate with beads. It will last for years.
- Pine cone — the cone is the dress, a bead the head, and wings are cut from felt or dried leaves.
- Salt dough — model or cut with a cookie cutter, dry in a low oven and paint.
- Napkins and thread — a light angel for a window or garland.
Where to put it
- On top of the tree or on its branches.
- In the window, together with paper snowflakes.
- In the centre of an evergreen and candle arrangement (keep paper figures well away from flames).
- As a gift tag or add-on to a present.
