A romantic breakfast or dinner
A tasty surprise is the simplest way to show you care — and you don't have to be a chef. Even everyday dishes can be served in festive style.
- Lacy heart pancakes. Pour thin batter into a clean plastic bottle with a small hole in the cap and "draw" hearts and patterns in the pan.
- Heart-shaped eggs. Slice a sausage lengthways, bend it into a heart, secure with a toothpick and crack an egg into the middle.
- Iced biscuits. Bake heart-shaped shortbread and decorate it with coloured icing or your names.
- Fortune cookies. Hide notes with confessions and plans for your future together inside.

A handmade card
A handmade card is kept for years. You'll need heavy paper or kraft card, coloured paper, ribbon, glue and a little patience. Ideas: pop-up hearts that open inside the card, a concertina card with photos of the two of you, a pressed-flower collage or an envelope card with a small letter inside.
A heart of roses and strawberries
A showstopping gift that takes some effort. Cut a heart from floral foam, soak it and fill it densely with short-stemmed roses. Don't push strawberries into the same foam: make the edible part separately — for example, chocolate-dipped strawberries on skewers arranged around the heart — and eat them the same day.

- Love-note tea. Replace the tags on tea bags with homemade ones carrying compliments and wishes, and pack them in a pretty box.
- A "100 reasons I love you" jar. Write short notes, roll them up and fill a glass jar tied with ribbon.
