Flowers are one of the simplest and most sincere ways to say thank you to those who defended and are defending Ukraine. In such a bouquet, size and price matter far less than respect and attention. Here is which flowers are appropriate for veterans and defenders, and the symbols of remembrance.
Restrained bouquets delivered: red roses and bouquets for men.
Days of remembrance
On 8 May Ukraine marks the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War of 1939–1945. 1 October is the Day of Defenders of Ukraine, when people thank those protecting the country today. The red poppy has become the symbol of remembrance and is worn on clothing on memorial days.
Which bouquet to choose
- Restraint. Red or white roses, carnations, chrysanthemums or, in spring, tulips are the classic choice. Bright party-style arrangements with toys are out of place.
- Practicality. A small bouquet that is easy to hold, or a box arrangement that needs no vase.
- Odd numbers. Living people are given an odd number of flowers; even numbers are laid at memorials and monuments.
- For a man. A simple bouquet in dark or kraft wrapping, or sometimes a potted plant.
Attention matters most
For many veterans, a personal visit, a phone call, a sincere thank-you and time spent together matter more than flowers. Flowers complement attention but do not replace it. If someone dislikes public attention, congratulate them quietly and in person.
