On November 9, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language. The holiday was established in 1997 and is traditionally associated with honoring Saint Nestor the Chronicler. On this day Ukrainians write the All-Ukrainian Radio Dictation of National Unity and congratulate language teachers, writers and everyone who loves their native word. Here you will find short wishes, messages for teachers and students, colleagues and friends, poems and ideas for celebrating. “Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language” is searched 2.8K times a month. Wishes for other holidays of the year are in our holiday wishes calendar.
Teachers are also celebrated on their professional day — see our Teacher’s Day wishes; another holiday of Ukrainian identity is Vyshyvanka Day.

Greeting loved ones from afar
A video call — agree on a good time so the whole family can talk without rushing.
A voice message — a real voice feels warmer than text, especially for grandparents.
Flower delivery — a bouquet with a card delivered on the holiday morning makes a lovely surprise.
A family video — collect short wishes from all your relatives and send them as one clip.
Language Day poems
Our native word is like a song, A mother’s lullaby so dear, May it ring out loud and strong In every home, both far and near!
Word by word, a song is born, Word by word, a book comes alive, May our language greet each morn And year by year grow and thrive!
The best gift is a Ukrainian book with a handwritten inscription. A language teacher will also appreciate a bouquet with a card written in beautiful handwriting.
Those who carry words between languages are greeted on 30 September: Translation Day wishes.
You can also greet those who write in Ukrainian on Writers’ Day, 3 March.
