International Music Day is celebrated every year on 1 October. It was initiated by the great violinist Yehudi Menuhin and first held by UNESCO's International Music Council in 1975. In summer, on 21 June, there is another music holiday, the Fête de la Musique, which began in France in 1982. On this day we greet musicians, singers, composers, conductors, music school teachers and every music lover. Below are short Music Day wishes, messages for musicians and teachers, words from listeners, poems and gift ideas.

Music Day poems
May music live within your heart And sound like springtime every day; May life play you its finest part And joy be with you all the way!
Seven notes, a universe of sound, Of joy and sorrow, laughter too; May love and music all around Bring endless harmony to you!
Gift ideas for a musician
Musicians appreciate gifts for their craft: quality headphones, a metronome, a music stand, strings or tickets to a favourite artist's concert. After a performance, flowers are traditional: elegant orchids or gentle bouquets. A bouquet from students and parents is a lovely gift for a music teacher.
