What white flowers mean
In European and Ukrainian tradition white stands for purity, sincerity, new beginnings and respect. That is why white flowers are so often chosen for weddings, christenings, graduations and as a thank-you.
- Weddings. The fashion for white wedding dresses and pale flowers spread in the 19th century, largely after Queen Victoria's wedding in 1840.
- Respect and remembrance. White chrysanthemums, callas and roses are also appropriate in funeral arrangements.
- Other cultures. In China, Japan and Korea white is traditionally associated with mourning, so when giving flowers to someone from these countries, add a colourful accent.

- Lisianthus — delicate and rose-like, lasts up to two weeks.

- Gypsophila — a light "cloud" as a base or filler.
- Phalaenopsis orchid — a white potted orchid is a long-lasting gift for the home.
How to make a white bouquet that doesn't look flat
- Mix textures. Combine large flowers (roses, peonies) with small ones (gypsophila, stock) and graphic shapes (callas).
- Mix shades of white. Snow white, cream, ivory and greenish tones (as in some hydrangeas and chrysanthemums) add depth.

- One accent. If there is too much white, add a touch of powder pink, peach or pale blue.
